When is a disc herniation in the neck an emergency? What are the most serious and dangerous signs and symptoms associated with a slipped disk? Most herniated discs are not dangerous. The disc herniation puts pressure on the nerves or spinal cord and produces neck pain with arm pain, numbness, tingling and weakness. However, progressive arm or leg numbness and weakness, problems walking, loss of bowel or bladder function are considered medical emergencies and you should call your physician or go to a hospital immediately. Spine expert, Dr. Seth Neubardt, explains what to look out for as the most serious dangers of disc herniation in your neck.
